About this deal

I voted for Uniting Nations (one of my fave looped house reworks) and, of course, Delta and Brian - Delta's only ever appearance on a Now album. As always, I feel improvements could have been made to the volume overall, though I am pleased that the reissued Elvis hits were omitted from this volume. I also think the introduction of downloads counting towards the chart after April seemed to boost urban at the expense of dance for some reason.

This was far from a vintage period of music for me overall though, certainly not in the charts (the Elvis reissues and tragic sales summed it up). Initially, a special edition of a Now compilation was quite rare, and between 1994 and 2002, there weren't any released at all. Another strand of the Now Yearbook series, in August 2022, is the somewhat experimental release of a limited edition, extended play, 7" vinyl single, containing 2 tracks each from the 1983 and 1984 Yearbooks. All series with the exception of United Kingdom and the United States have been discontinued, New Zealand had two more albums released as a playlist only on Spotify, South Africa had three more albums released as a playlist on Spotify under DJ Kurtis. album features cuts by Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna, Sia featuring Kendrick Lamar, Britney Spears and the actor-turned-musician Hailee Steinfeld. They are also notable as being the first time a Now series had released a compilation of hits from the years 1980 to 1982. Due to the higher cost of pressing vinyl and the limited time they are available, they are at least three times more expensive than their compact disc counterparts.

These compilations are very similar to the anniversary series, however, they contain a lower amount of tracks and retailed much cheaper than the former series. Not quite as good a disc as we come to expect now, and lets down the average a bit, but there are a few gems here particularly the start of the disc (up until and including 'Wires' before the quality takes a complete nosedive, briefly recovering for 'Black and White Town'/'An Honest Mistake' and then 'Amarillo' right at the end). Beginning CD1 with the decade defining ‘Give Peace A Chance’ from one of the biggest cultural icons of the last century - John Lennon (with Yoko Ono). Kylie Minogue (for me, one of the last truly great/transcendant singles she did for a good five years. If a playlist was created for the end of the world, this song would be up there as a strong contender! The Now Yearbook series continues both forwards, with Now Yearbook 1985 issued in November 2022, and backwards, with the release of Now Yearbook 1979 in September 2022 (an Extra followed in October). As Billboard reports: "all 59 of the numbered volumes have charted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, including 18 No.

A standard 4-CD version is also issued in a gatefold "wallet" design, which retails cheaper than the mini-hardback books. That exceeded the previous best for this year, held by David Bowie’s Blackstar, which sold 146,000 copies in its opening week after the star’s untimely death in January. They all vary from one to five disc compilations (occasionally six disc), starting in 1986 and continuing to the present day (Jan 2023). This is fittingly followed by one of the most influential bands of all time - The Who with 'My Generation'.A further release, The Final Chapter, a deluxe 4-CD and 3-LP set, was issued in December 2022, rounding off the Yearbook years 1980 to 1984.
