About this deal

Overall, the Mini Evo has plenty to offer, and while I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an Instax Square format model in the future, the Evo has jumped straight to the top of my list of favourite instant cameras. I’ve spent the past couple of months shooting the Mini Evo, and though there are two or three problems with the camera, it really is a wonderful thing. While the credit-card-sized Instax Mini prints aren’t the largest, they still offer a decent amount of detail and look nice when displayed.

Fundamentally, the camera allows the user to make the photos they want to make and print the photos they want to print – two things that aren’t necessarily the status quo in instant film photography. Though it’s true that the Instax Mini Evo is (probably) the best modern, mainstream instant film camera that I’ve used, it does let me down in a few ways. The flap that covers the ports on the bottom of the camera is made of flimsy rubber and it’s held in place with a truly ephemeral strand of fiber that I’m sure will break before the camera’s blown the candle out on it’s first birthday cupcake.

Instantly print the images you take or send them over to your smartphone for sharing on social media. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Lastly, and most interestingly, the app allows users to direct print images from their smartphone onto the Instax film in the Mini Evo. It’s got Bluetooth, built-in storage, a big LCD screen, a nice CMOS sensor, and a selfie mirror (admit it, you care about this). Despite having a highly capable camera in my pocket at all times, I rarely print my smartphone images and so I had a lot of fun scrolling through my gallery and porting over pictures to print.

We stood against the wind and the salty spray of the bleak sea for as long as we could be bothered, which wasn’t long, considering we had a five- and seven-year-old in tow, and also considering that my idea of a perfect day is comprised mostly of sun and temperatures strictly higher than 79 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s fully automatic in operation and is a simple point-and-shoot affair, but it does offer the ability to tweak your exposure compensation, set your autofocus point, toggle the flash control, set a self timer and add a range of creative effects. A 3in colour LCD on the rear is used for composing your shots but, as it’s not a touchscreen, a smattering of physical buttons and dials are used for tweaking settings and navigating menus. This innovative hybrid instant camera features 10 lens effect options and 10 film effect options, giving you up to 100 different ways to instantly create your own unique 2 x 3" photographs.

If you're looking for an all-in-one hybrid instant camera with a nostalgic twist, the Evo may well ring your bell. This vintage-inspired model trades away some of the “instantaneousness” for more control and better results across the board. The same functionality applies to a rotatable ring around the lens, except this one changes the lens effects. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Both tactile and satisfying, turn the Lens Ring on the Mini Evo to cycle through the 10 lens effects.

I took some pictures on the camera and printed them and I gotta say, the prints look amazing, the pictures don't do it justice as my phone's camera is crappy but I did as best as I could to show them off, I'm not good at taking pictures but I'm still learning. Instax Mini film may not look as good in full resolution on your laptop, but they’re decent enough to post on your Instagram feed. The editor of Digital Camera World, James has 21 years experience as a journalist and started working in the photographic industry in 2014 (as an assistant to Damian McGillicuddy, who succeeded David Bailey as Principal Photographer for Olympus). However, the beauty of the Evo is that it combines all of these core design features with a slew (a veritable slew, I tell ya) of secondary features. Simply connect your smartphone to your mini Evo and hey presto, you’ve now got a remote shutter button.

For all intents and purposes, it's a slightly snazzier version of the Instax Mini LiPlay, only it's bigger and (to my eye) not as cool to look at, despite being designed as an aesthetics-first camera. It powers up almost instantly, offers a simple point-and-shoot interface and features a range of creative options through its various filters. Additional tactile highlights are offered by the unusually large number of operating elements for an instant camera. What’s also enticing about the direct print feature is that the app also allows us to edit our print within the app before sending it to the camera for printing.

When you’re out shooting, it’s intuitive to mix and match the effects available to get the look you want. You’ll need to dive into the menus to tinker with exposure compensation or use the self-timer, flash or macro mode. It’s more expensive than the average instant camera, but it’s worth the money, and in fact it will save money in the long run, since we’ll only be printing the photos we definitely want to print.

Express your visual point of view and share life's moments, either as an instant physical print, or as a digital image you can save to your smartphone and share on the socials. With 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, combining them gives you the power to create your exact vision.
