Archer also continues to present an unremarkable prose, but one cannot take away from him his ability to surprise the reader over and over. Would she ever be the same cheerful little girl who ran around Seb like an obedient puppy, tail wagging with unbridled adoration? Hardcastle is the Chairman of the Farthing Bank and he will join forces with the Barrington’s to try and thwart Don Pedro Martinez and his sons. This thoroughly engaging old-school, multigenerational saga harks back to the work of Malcolm Macdonald, Belva Plain, and Irwin Shaw.

Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher?

The story is very predictable but the most disappointing thing for me is the lack of connection with the characters.

Relevancy is introduced when an emotional or financial or similar scar or trait continues to affect developments through decades. What's insane is that the Barrington's and Clifton's are a good family that just want to maintain their lives in peace. You really do have to start with the first in the series, it's no good trying to read them out of sequence, but it's so easy to become immersed in the plot that you don't want to put it down. In the least, the author has a lot to do in the last installation of the Chronicles to infuse some sort of relevancy in the series. Be Careful What You Wish For' is a terrific thriller which some reviewers clearly have enjoyed as a 'stand-alone' novel.By the standards of what goes as the baddies in books of our time, the villains of the novel - while without a shade of grey - are almost as mild as those in Jane Austin novels or equivalent of street thugs in their power and influence.

Owen nodded, and the mortician pulled back the sheet to reveal a scarred and battered face that Emma recognized immediately. She eventually made her way unsteadily across the room, clinging on to several pieces of furniture, like a sailor in a storm. or could this be the foundation for book 5 which will be out in year 2015; hence stories seems to be so scattered ? The approach I am speaking off is his storytelling ability that produces a wonderful family saga in the CLIFTON CHRONICLES with each volume ending in a cliff hanger that gently encourages the reader to pick up the next installment. As is the case in the first iterations of the Clifton’s, Archer segments the story into chapters that focus on a given character and allows them to tell the story from their perspective. The series is supposed to be about the life of one man, Harry Clifton, but Harry takes a backseat in this story.
