About this deal

This artwork is gorgeous. Shen Long is amazing! I wish I could dance with the dragon. It's clear the artist loves their work, and new the topic well. Sometimes you get art that doesn't match cultural stories because the artist isn't as deeply acquainted with the story. Not so here! I read this with my cubs and it was a big hit with all of them. We have plans to get a hardcopy of the book. Performing the Dragon Dance involves following certain etiquettes and guidelines to ensure a smooth and successful performance. Here are some tips on how to perform the Dragon Dance like a pro: Faye Chunfang Fei, ed. (2002). Chinese Theories of Theater and Performance from Confucius to the Present. University of Michigan Press. pp.24–25. ISBN 978-0472089239. We’d like to also give a shout-out to MCBD’s impressive CoHost Team who not only hosts the book review link-up on celebration day, but who also works tirelessly to spread the word of this event. The southern dragon’s skeleton is often made of bamboo and paper. The body's skin is made with cloth with drawn dragon scales. The Dragon Dance costume typically consists of a long, colorful dragon made of silk or other materials, along with matching outfits for the performers. The dragon's head and tail are usually adorned with traditional Chinese symbols like the dragon's eyes, horns, and whiskers. Dragons can range in length from as little as 2 metres (10ft) operated by two people for small displays, around 25 to 35 metres (80 to 110ft) for the more acrobatic models, and up to 50 to 70 metres (160 to 230ft) for the larger parade and ceremonial styles. The size and length of a dragon depends on the human power available, financing, materials, skills and size of the field. A small organization cannot afford to run a very long dragon because it requires considerable human power, great expense and special skills. Dragon Dancer is a son of Sadler’s Wells, while Norse Dancer is more or less free of Northern Dancer (he appears in the fifth generation as sire of Nijinsky, grandsire of Dance Machine, the dam of Norse Dancer’s sire Halling). That makes him an outcross for Sadler’s Wells mares, of which we have six or seven of our own. We like covering our own mares, which is how we got into stallions.”The artistic of the dance team mimics the supposed movements of this spirit and hence brings the motionless body to life. To create the dragon, you will need a long piece of cloth or fabric that is around 30 feet in length. The material should be lightweight and easy to move around. You can use different colors and designs to decorate the dragon's body. You will also need a large and round head made of paper mache, which should be painted with bright colors and have two big eyes.

I got this book as part of #readyourworld Multicultural Children's Book Day in exchange for an honest review.*

What’s the difference between a dragon and a lion dance?

The patterns of the dragon dance are choreographed according to the skills and experiences acquired by the performers. Some of the patterns of the dragon dance are "Cloud Cave", "Whirlpool", Tai-Chi pattern, "Threading The Money", "Looking For Pearl", and "Dragon Encircling The Pillar". The movement "Dragon Chasing The Pearl" shows that the dragon is continually in the pursuit of wisdom. This helps the dancers direct the shape of the body and the way it flows with the beat of the music. It also allows the dancers to maneuver the head in fast-paced motions from left to right. Dragon worship eventually developed into the dragon dance, a popular performance seen during various celebrations today. The dragon dance costume is typically crafted using materials like grass, bamboo, paper, and cloth. To evoke auspiciousness, the dragon's joints are often made in odd numbers, resulting in 9-jointed, 11-jointed, or even 29-jointed dragons. The dragon's body is meticulously woven from thin bamboo strips or other materials, forming a circular shape and covered with a vibrant red cloth.
