About this deal

I had never read a Tim Weaver book before and after reading this I will certainly be reading more of them. This is so well written, the plot is very complicated with lots of twists at the end but it stays credibility all the way through and although violent at times I never felt it was just for the sake of it.

Once David Raker starts looking into Sam's case it becomes obvious to him that there are untold secrets that need to be discovered. He is sure that both Sam and Julia have secrets that are being kept well hidden and will need to be exposed if this case is to be solved. The main character does seem to have the highest pain threshold known to man, and has more lives than a cat. But again, I was happy to be taken along for the ride CCTV footage captures Cate and Aiden Gascoigne driving home seconds before their car plunges into a ravine and explodes. Richard's last hope may be private investigator David Raker - a seasoned locator of missing people. But Raker has more questions than answers. The rising star of British crime -- Tony Parsons * Sunday Times Number One bestselling author of the DC Max Wolfe series *

From the get-go, I was pulled into the story, with Weaver doing what he always does: setting the scene, giving you glimpses of mystery, leaving you with many questions. What I especially loved about this story was the case. Tim Weaver always creates thrilling missing person stories, but this time it was outside the norm. What I mean is that the missing person did not fit the stereotype found in so many of these books. This time we have an older woman going missing, the reason for her disappearance completely unknown. It was a great change to the norm, showcasing once again how Tim Weaver can create a compelling story for any character. In “Vanished” the thrilling and gripping third novel in the “David Raker” series, the intrepid investigator has been hired by Julia Wren to find her husband Sam who’s been missing for six months after taking the Underground Subway one morning and never getting off. Sam having taken no cash or clothes, and his movement not recorded on the subway’s cameras, Raker has few clues to go on. Yet as he interviews family, friends and work colleagues he begins to uncover a very troubled and secretive man who may have made connections that have gotten him into more trouble than he ever expected.

Love David Raker? You’ll love these…

Rebekah, isolated on the island, is doing everything she can to survive and return to her children. She presumes she will be missed but needs to stay fit mentally and physically. She also wants to work out just why she is in this position - is there something in her past that might provide a clue? You know I thought I'd miss Raker, this being a standalone, but actually I didn't give him a second thought.. For, as Raker starts to suspect that even the police are lying to him, someone is watching. Someone who knows what happened on the tube that day. And, with Raker in his sights, he'll do anything to keep Sam's secrets to himself . . .

This time we’re dealt a different bag as we’re not only watching the story unfold from David’s perspective but we’re also viewing things through the eyes of Colm, giving us an insight into what is going on with him following on from the last story rather than it being simple word of mouth from David. At first I was slightly unsure if I would enjoy the change but I certainly enjoyed it, coming to really enjoy the reappearance of Colm in this second book. Detective Travis can't find Louise Mason. The case has no leads and is getting colder by the day. Then Travis gets an anonymous tip-off -but is this a clue or part of something more sinister? Why do you have to do it?" she said. There was less emotion in her voice now, and more resolve. "Why would you want to do a job that leads you to such dark places?" Three days after Christmas, a woman walks into a police station. She has no phone and no ID, just a piece of paper with the name of investigator David Raker on it. She tells officers that Raker is her husband. When he turns up at the station, Raker is stunned. The woman looks exactly like his wife. She knows all about their marriage, their history, even private conversations the two of them had. There’s just one problem: Raker’s wife has been dead for eight years.Tim Weaver writes books so meticulously researched that the reader is educated as well as entertained, enthralled and intrigued -- Liz Nugent * Sunday Times bestselling author of Lying in Wait * Thank you Netgalley, Penguin Michael Joseph UK and of course Tim Weaver for letting me ready a copy of this I'm return for an honest review. Weaver's books get better each time - tense, complex . . . written with flair as well as care' Guardian

I was pleased to see that this book has been chosen as one of the Richard & Judy Autumn 2013 Bookclub reads. I was working on the day Broken Heart was realised, and I feared a repeat of my last escapade. Therefore, I sent my mother on a mission to find the book. I would like to point out that my mother lives hundreds of miles away, so she was getting strict instructions down the phone. I needed her to find me a very specific book so that when I came to visit I would be an exceptionally happy daughter. She did as I asked though, heading out to find me one. After work, I phoned to see whether she had managed to grab me one… only for there to be bad news. For some reason, her search had ended in a conversation of how the book would not be on the shelves for a while. Thus, I became a woman on a mission. Again, I searched Aberdeen. Fortunately, my search was much easier this time. Again, the trouble was worth it. Having left London after a near-fatal stabbing, private investigator David Raker is recuperating at his dad’s old cottage, located in a costal town in Devon, when he is asked by a former girlfriend to investigate the disappearance of her sister Carrie, Carrie’s husband Paul and their two daughters. The whole family vanished without a trace, leaving their house as if they were about to return at any moment. With the police being no help, having given up their own investigation after the case kept leading to a dead ends, and busy with a body that has washed up on beach, it’s up to Raker to find out just what happened to this family. Rebekah is trapped on Crow Island and is 101 miles from the US mainland. Much of the island was destroyed by Hurricane Gloria in 1987 and has few facilities. How and why is she trapped? Meanwhile, soon to be retired Detective Frank Travis is searching for missing artist Louise Mason. How do these seemingly disparate stories connect? The story is told in different timelines principally by Rebekah and Travis.

Publication Order of David Raker Missing Persons Books

The violence was chilling but the tension was supreme all the way through to the final dénouement. I felt almost scared in places. The writing was tight yet flowing. The clues were there some were obvious, others not so which is where you get such a buzz from a thriller. When you can’t second-guess you know you have a good writer. In this instalment, David is recovering from his previous case and is living a quiet life in rural Devon. When an old friend of his asks him to investigate the disappearance of an entire family David is drawn once more into the world of the missing. As he digs deeper what he finds is disturbing and dangerous… Gosh I devoured this. Utterly addictive, moving between before and now, it is completely unpredictable throughout, you never know quite what will happen next. As all the missing pieces of the title start coming together to form a cohesive reality, the plotting is genius and the truth is stunning in its complexity. Nakon što sam prije šest godina pokopao ženu, moji slučajevi postali su način na koji sam žalovao za njom. Nestale osobe postale su moj pojas za spasavanje."
