Network access is becoming a larger part of the MPC experience. For example, if you wish to use any of Akai’s premium plugins you’ll have to initially log into your inMusic account from within your MPC to then activate the plugins over the internet ( note: according to Akai, once logged in and activated, there’s no requirement to remain online). The Akai MPC One is sort of a hybrid between Akai’s very popular MPC Live and X units. It’s a cheaper alternative to both, but by no means sacrifices functionality for affordability. Even though the MPC One sits at the lowest price point, the whole MPC series doesn’t necessarily conform to the ‘good, better, best’ model. Instead, each workstation serves a different set of needs which is reflected in the price—in that way, cost is not indicative of quality. The MPC One Plus is ready to integrate into your current studio setup. Whether you are just starting out, or have a fully-fledged studio setup, the MPC One Plus is ready to become the centrepiece of your studio. USB controllers can be connected via USB whilst 1/4 line level inputs can be used to connect instruments. Integrate with Splice The MPC One does not have an internal mic preamp so it cannot appropriately amplify an incoming mic signal. To work around this, simply connect your mic to a mixer with a mic preamp and route the mixer's line output to the MPC's line input.
Wanna buy a MPC for create songs, not just lo-fi or hip hop beats, complete songs like jazz, funk,etc. To do this my idea is record instruments like saxophone, flutes, guitar, piano, bass, accordion, and other ones. Can i record instruments directly from a mic plug into MPC? Like plug a mic into the MPC and record some flute melodies for example? Wich MPC is better to work with live instruments, live II or one? Reply Just be aware that Bluetooth audio is NOT supported, mainly because the latency would be too great for it to be usable. What is the internal storage used for? There are sixteen high-sensitive pads, which makes it convenient to produce a variety of sounds. It is integrated with a seven-inch touchscreen to provide you with higher control over the unit’s features and preloaded music samples. Another area where these MPCs all differ is overall the layout of elements. Both the MPC One Plus and the MPC X SE place the screen directly above the pads, while the MPC Live II and MPC Key place the pads to the left of the screen. I often fixate on trying to make one piece of gear do everything, and it's a path to frustration. I'd recommend letting the MPC find its natural niche in your particular workflow and go with it. All content will need to be stored on a USB drive or SD card before transferring to the internal storage on the MPC One. The Internal drive will not appear as an available drive when connected to your computer. The MPC Key has dropped in price since it’s release and currently seems like a pretty decent deal considering the suite of included plugins, 4GB ram and of course the integrated keyboard. The MPC One Plus also features a range of Akai’s professional synth engines, ensuring you’ll never run out of creative tools for your musical ideas. These include Electric, Tubesynth and Bassline, as well as the premium AIR FX for mixing & mastering. Features One of the most prominent new features is the inclusion of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Opening up a whole new world of connectivity options, you can use wireless connectivity to connect to compatible devices without cables such as the Ableton Link 3. You can even hook up wireless-compatible MIDI keyboard/controllers to create melodies and rhythms with your favourite gear. You can also constantly expand your sound library using the wide variety of MPC instruments on offer. So as things stand, adding more internal storage to the MPC One looks good on paper, it doesn’t really add any practical benefits. Perhaps in the future these restrictions will change, but for the moment you’ll definitely be better off using a large capacity SD card or USB drive for all your saving and storage requirements, as when connected to your MPC these drives are all accessible from a computer via USB connection. I hear the MPC One Plus has more memory and more powerful processor – is this true? To ensure full-range sensitivity, it’s important to turn on the full level and make adjustments to the threshold and sensitivity settings (these settings are available in the preferences section). The budget MPC One Plus has the tightest selection, with just two individual outputs and no mic, phono or instrument inputs. Nope, just another rumour. The MPC Live 1 & 2 are the only MPCs with internal batteries. But you can of course use a suitable portable battery if you really need to use your MPC One on-the-go. Just be aware that the One Plus model uses a 12v 3.0A power supply, while the original One uses the same 19v, 3.4A PSU as all other MPC models. What about the build quality? Is this the same? After an unsuccessful attempt at launching a drum machine and sampler hybrid called the Linn 9000, he and Akai began working together to “re-engineer” the concept behind the 9000 into something brand new. This would become the MPC60, which was released in December 1988. One of the most exciting new features is the introduction of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. You can use these two connections to wirelessly sync your favourite gear from MIDI keyboards and controllers to sequencers. You can use your external gear to input notes, craft melodies and create rhythms - perfect for the studio or the stage. MPC Software 2.10 update – new plugins, deeper integration and much more The pads themselves have been downsized a little, making them closer in size to those found on the Novation Launchpad Pro, but they still feel excellent to play and are up there with the most responsive you’ll find on any MIDI controller. The One+ is supposedly the entry-level MPC, but it’s quite capable of producing complete pieces of music. We spent most of our time treating it as a sample-based drum machine, with a few instrumental frills on top. In terms of the ‘+’ update, the most useful element is the wireless connectivity. Having now used all of the current MPCs, we’d say that this may not be the most fully-featured in hardware terms, but it’s one of the most fun to use.

Most of what comes on the unit is drum programs and hits, representing various urban and dance styles. I've raved about MPC drum programs before: they range across up to 64 pads and feature up to four sound layers per pad. Drum programs have their own internal mixer and can use any of the many internal plug-in effects on individual pad channels or the whole kit. The USB ports on the MPC One have a variety of uses. They can be used to transfer files on and off of the MPC, as extra storage, and as an input for USB MIDI controllers. The unit has a high-quality construction since it has a metal chassis with a rubber covering, which creates a durable and appealing design. The display screen is pretty clear and bright, which leads to higher visibility.The One+ is easy to get going with, especially for those who know the MPC workflow already. If you live to make beats, an MPC is always a good choice, but the One+ can take you to other realms too. That said, despite the enhancements, the One+ probably isn’t a worthwhile upgrade for current One owners… unless you really, really, like the colour. The max recording resolution in standalone mode is 24 bit, 44.1kHz. When using the MPC One in controller mode the recording resolution can be set up to 24 bit, 96 kHz. Overall, the MPC One is an excellent introduction to standalone sampling and sequencing. As far as an affordable entry in the MPC line goes, it delivers on all fronts, and fortunately does not sacrifice essential functionality to cut cost. Whether you’re a seasoned producer or a beginner, the MPC One is a fantastic tool. The most recommended USB interface for the MPC (and the one used by Akai in their promo videos) is actually a complete mixer and recording solution, the Tascam Model 12, which effectively provides your MPC with 12 inputs, 10 outputs, hands on dials, knobs, EQ, FX, mic preamps and a host of other features. So if you’re happy ‘outsourcing’ these tasks to an additional device like this, even the MPC One Plus could be used as a studio ‘hub’. Ergonomics
